MPS have said they want a system of open bidding for the Vice-President’s official residence.
The MPs of the committee on public service and local government yesterday sought to know the criteria used to handpick some properties as suitable for a residential complex for the VP.
“Let there be open bidding,” Anthony Mukasa (Buikwe South) said.
The committee was reacting to a statement from the public service permanent secretary, Jimmy R. Rwamafa, to the Clerk of Parliament.
Rwamafa said the process of procuring the House began in 1997. He said sh850m had so far been released as initial commitment to the procurement exercise.
The MPs demanded that the Ministry of Public Service explain how much it would cost to renovate and furnish the proposed houses and how much it would cost to construct a new house for the VP.
“We should guard against the repeat of the UCB saga,” some of the MPs said.
