MENGO officials have cautioned the self-styled ‘Ssabaruuli’ Salongo Mwogezi Butamanya against misleading the Baruuli to rebel against the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.

Butamanya claims to be the rightful head of the 127 clans in Buruuli (Ssabaruuli) and has vowed to resist singing the Buganda anthem “Ekitiibwa kya Buganda” in Buruuli.

He argued that for many years the Baganda had despised the Baruuli, considering them as third-rate citizens.

On two recent occasions Butamanya walked out of big functions, protesting the singing of the Buganda anthem.

The Mengo minister for cabinet affairs, youth and information, Charles Peter Mayiga, warned Butamanya against misleading the Baruuli.

“If Butamanya is opposed to singing the Buganda anthem, that is his personal view but he must not mislead others. Buruuli is part of Buganda kingdom,” he said.

He said as an individual, Batamanya had no authority to force people to disobey the Kabaka.

Mayiga advised Butamanya to engage in developmental initiatives that would benefit the Baruuli.

Some sources at Mengo denounced Butamanya as a bogus Ssabaruuli.
