Nyanzi guard denies murder
KAMPALA – Paul Byona, the former bodyguard for Vincent Nyanzi, Busujju MP, on Monday appeared in court and denied having murdered Vincent Mwebesa during the 2001 parliamentary elections. Justice Caroline Okello then fixed March 20 for hearing the charge against Byona at the High Court in Nakawa. Byona was committed to the High Court in April last year after the Director Public Prosecutions withdrew murder charges against Nyanzi.

Nangabo sues KCC
KAMPALA – The Kyaddondo East Member of Parliament, William Ssitenda Ssebalu, and Nangabo LC3 chairman Pastor Cephas Kasozi have filed a civil suit in the Nakawa High Court against Kampala City Council (KCC). They are seeking sh1b in damages from KCC for dumping of garbage in their division. Ssitenda and Kasozi are acting on behalf of 40 other residents who have been adversely affected by the garbage that has contaminated over 40 shallow wells which are sources of water in the division.

150 boats destroyed
KASESE – A total of 500 under-size fishing nets and 150 illegal boats have been destroyed during a joint crackdown on illegal fishing in the district. They were destroyed on lakes George and Edward. The district production and marketing committee chairman, Kyamukono Mubilo, told the district council recently that about 330 other boats and 12,000 fishnets were licensed and fetching the district about sh6.7m annually.

Ssemo warns DP on posts
KAMPALA – Democratic Party (DP) chief Paul Ssemogerere has warned members against envying those who stand for national elections. He was speaking at Christ the King Cardinal Wamala hall after prayers to pay tribute to former Busiki MP (1961-1962), Cyprian Isiko. The former DP deputy chairman died on February 27 in Rubaga Hospital. ssemogerere said Isiko overjoyed at the victory of every DP member.
