NEWLY promoted Second Deputy Premier Lt. Gen. Moses Ali and his West Nile compatriot, Maj. Gen. Ali Bamuze, have condemned Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army, and urged him to help end the suffering of the thousands of people in northern Uganda. Alfred Wasike reports that President Yoweri Museveni on Friday promoted Ali from Brigadier while Bamuze, the former Uganda National Rescue Front rebel leader was promoted from Colonel. The duo’s promotion was in recognition of their contribution to peace. An ecstatic Ali told The New Vision, “I am very surprised, very happy and very grateful to President Museveni for this promotion. On behalf of the people of West Nile I thank the Commander-in-Chief for finally deciding to recognise my efforts and raising me to this rank. I want to express my satisfaction for his recognition. Kony should wake up and end his rebellion. We condemn his terrorist acts.†Bamuze, who surrendered his group’s cache of weapons to the Government last December and secured sh4b for resettlement, exclaimed, “I am now ready to join hands with the Movement Government to build our country. Kony and his LRA should do like us. Come out and talk. It is pointless to keep fighting and fighting forever. We condemn him. Let him stop and respect dialogue.†Ali, who was instrumental in the negotiations that led to the Government’s peace deal with Bamuze’s group said, “Kony should know that time is running out for him.†Ends
