The Minister of State for Karamoja Affairs, Peter Lokeris, has appealed to the World Food Programme (WFP) to allocate more relief food to Namalu sub-county in Nakapipirit district.
He said Namalu was heavily populated and worst hit by food shortage. He told the State Minister for Disaster Preparedness, Christine Aporu recently that the food needs assessment team had not visited all the affected areas.
“Namalu is often looked at in the context of the trading centre, yet there are many people in the villages,” he said.
He singled out Loregai parish which he said had suffered a poor harvest in the last crop season.
Lokeris also asked WFP to allocate food to Namalu Seed Secondary School.
He said the school, with 29 students, was being fed by a contractor who built it.He said giving food to the school would encourage more students to join.Ends
