Nabaasa Gwajwa, the self-proclaimed prophetess is misleading people and reports are emerging that people are dying quietly. Based on the bench-marks of the Ntutsi cult published in The New Vision of March 17, by the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHCR), Nabaasa’s Ntutsi cult should be banned permanently and the leaders prosecuted.
These are the benchmarks published by the UHCR:
lThe cult has violated the right to health and freedom of speech. Gwajwa does not allow you to challenge her and if you do, then you have sinned against the gods.
lShe has consistently divided families especially those opposed to her teaching.
lAt the Rurembo (camp) in Ntutsi, one does not have easy access and there is a lot of suspicion and hostility from those manning the entrance.
lThey have created detachments from those at the camp and the local authorities. For instance, the RDC, the LCs, other religious groups are not cooperating with them.
lSex between spouses in the camp is strictly forbidden.
lThere is general fear and Gwajwa, intimidates her followers. For instance if she is challenged or one member deserts her, she sends curses and threatens the deserter with death and suffering.
lThere is general deception and lies spread by Nabaasa about the end of the world. She mixes the Bible and the Chwezi demi-gods. The two are not compatible. In fact she has asserted that the Chwezi sent her to tell the world of their impending return.
lThe followers are supposed to come every second and third day of the month for a ritual called okuhasirira or cleansing of ancestral spirits. During the day they get into the church and sing Christian hymns.
l They have got very close ties with powerful members of the society and it is believed her prosecution died a natural death even where there was evidence. In her ranks are top business people, army and police officers. In many instances, her followers quietly sell their property to give her and her father. Some of the peasants have sold everything and are now stuck at her place without property.
lNabaasa earns sh800,000 everyday from her ‘patients’ Why doesn’t the URA get some of that revenue?
lMany cult members have got completely detached from their families.
