SIR — The management of Kalita Transporters are dismayed by James Atugonza’s article “Kalita is a Concorde, not a bus” published on march 18. Kalita Transporters has qualified and experienced drivers who drive at normal speed with due regard to the passengers and other road users. If indeed Kalita buses were being recklessly ‘flown’ as alleged by Atugonza, we would have registered a multitude of accidents and fatalities on the road.
The unbearable tension Atugonza alludes to is a figment of his own imagination. One wonders why Atugonza did not ask the driver to stop so he could get off the bus.
It is so surprising that he experienced such “unbearable tension” only to travel in another Kalita bus thereafter. Kalita is not a monopoly on the Fort Portal-Kampala route.
If Atugonza’s claims were true, Kalita Transporters would never have operated for over five years and sustained not only its passengers but also its business position in the highly competitive transport industry.
