INTERVENTION by land surveyors last Friday put to rest the border fight between Soroti and Kumi districts.

Charles Enyiku, the regional surveyor based in Mbale, brought out maps taken in the 1960s, showing demarcations of Soroti and Kumi borders.

After a thorough guided map study by the leaders, elders and residents from the two districts, the surveyors took the map border boundaries as correct and binding.

According to the maps, the border between Soroti and Kumi, beginning from Awoja Water Works bridge, stretches 650 meters eastwards towards Kapir rocks in Kumi.

The row erupted after Kumi district erected a signpost at Awoja bridge reading, “Welcome to Kumi District”.

In response, Soroti district erected another signpost across the Awoja bridge, about a kilometre eastwards towards Kapir rocks reading, “Soroti District Welcomes You”.

Soroti retired Bishop Geresom Ilukor chaired the meeting held at the foothills of Kapir rocks.
