Gwajwa Nabaasa is a true healer

SIR — I am disappointed with the articles that have recently been appearing in the press attacking Gwajwa Nabaasa of Sembabule.

SIR — I am disappointed with the articles that have recently been appearing in the press attacking Gwajwa Nabaasa of Sembabule.

The story of Grace Matsiko published on March 13 and of the letter of Andrew Muhabwa bear ill-intentions upon the person of Nabaasa. This is the truth about Nabaasa as I know it:

  • She is a true healer. I have seen and talked to her but the only problem is that she is working in a colonised social environment. An African is not expected to perform miracles in the name of God. Such miracles are the preserve of the likes of Joyce Meyer from America. People like Matsiko and Muhabwa need to be decolonised and stop undermining the efforts made by talented Africans.

  • Nabaasa is a very co-operative person, even with journalists. For example, three years ago, I was present when Matsiko interviewed her. He was warmly welcomed and what he wrote praised Nabaasa as a spiritually powerful person. I challenge any journalist to go to Ntutsi anytime and meet Nabaasa. they will not find anything negative to write about her.

  • Nabaasa has never advised anybody not to go hospital. In fact she co-operates with some medical doctors.

  • Nabaasa cures the lame, deaf and epileptics among other complications.

  • The camp at Orurembo is quite clean as is Nabaasa herself. There is a borehole at the camp and people get clean water. There has never been an outbreak of cholera or any other disease in the camp. This means there is no problem associated with poor hygiene.

  • Nabaasa has never predicted the end of the world as alleged by Muhabwa.

  • She has close relationship with big people and this is a sign that she is not a quack.

Finally, I wish to pose two questions:
Did all Africans who died before Europeans came to Africa go to hell? Can’t an African be a prophet or prophetess?
