TWO people perished in a grisly road accident on the Masaka-Mbarara highway yesterday morning.

It involved a Kabale-bound Horizon coach and a double cabin pick-up truck.

Maruli Musomera, the owner of the pick-up and Charles Rwanga, the driver, believed to be Rwanda nationals died instantly in the accident that occurred at Kyawagoonya, 35km from Masaka.

Their vehicle was reduced to a bangled heap of metal.
They were travelling to Kampala in a Toyota double cabin bearing a Rwandan registration number RR 8475 B, when their vehicle was hit by the Volvo bus, after Rwanga swerved suddenly to the right.

“I think the driver (Rwanga) being a Rwandan national, forgot and kept right just as is the case in Rwanda but later realised it was wrong and swerved back to the left but it was too late,” Masaka police chief, Stephen Kasiima said.

The collusion threw the pick-up truck more than 50 meters from the accident scene before finally landing in a ditch.
