Two years in its 10-year development strategy, the Buganda kingdom has set up six agencies to implement the Buganda Kingdom Development strategy (BKDS), reports Josephine Maseruka.
Katikkiro Joseph Ssemwogerere told a workshop on BKDS for Mengo ministers at Hotel Africana, Kampala, that the agencies include a secretariat and an advocacy commission.
He appealed to the Baganda to be more innovative and hardworking so that their impact on society is felt long before they are granted the federal system of governance.
Ssemwogerere said BKDS is the kingdom’s declaration of its community development intent to fight against poverty, malnutrition, food insecurity, illiteracy and immorality.
He said the Buganda development Agency (BDA), the kingdom’s corporate body, was already in place.
He said BDA is to spearhead policy development, direct investment and provide legal mandate to foster development of Buganda.
BDA will also be responsible for the management and implementation of the BKDS in accordance with the kingdom’s vision and mission.
Other agencies include the Royal Micro-Finance and the central Purchasing and marketing services to market the people’s produce. Ends
