Makoma Strike Again

Only a fool on the very far off hills of Bunamwaya or deep down in Kiboga would not love dance-hall supremos Makoma from the Netherlands.

Only a fool on the very far off hills of Bunamwaya or deep down in Kiboga would not love dance-hall supremos Makoma from the Netherlands. The music that is sprinkled with lyrics, expounding on the boundless love of God, swings with languid melodies against captivating kindergarten reggae.
However, it was sad that the last time that they were in Uganda, very few fans got see them strut their stuff live on stage. This was because Government had slammed a travel ban to allow the national census. Due to public demand, the folks at Umoja Productions have righted things by hauling Makoma back in the country for two concerts. They will first amble in the spotlight in earnest at the Nile Hotel Gardens on the Holy Saturday of April 19.
On Easter Sunday, all roads lead to Ggaba Beach for a family concert. Entry at Nile Gardens will cost sh15,000 while at Ggaba Beach, adults will pay sh7,000 and kids will pull out sh3,000.
The last time Makoma were in Uganda their gigs, especially the one at Nile hotel, almost crashed under the weight of poor logistics and insufficient power. Makoma were forced to profusely utter excuses in wonderfully lame English.
But despite suffering with awful sound, Makoma stood before us that day and proved they are one of the most important bands on the planet.
“Soon after that experience, we endeavoured to put everything right. We acquired a new generator that is built on a trailer. We can haul it wherever we want to,” said a source at Umoja Productions. “The main reason we decided to bring back Makoma is, on stage they are second only to Lucky Dube in giving a power-packed, value-for-money concert. They are not like these cheats from Congo.”
And, for all the Christian Gospel messages in their songs, many have taken pleasure from them because their excellence appeals to a wider audience, no matter which faith one belongs to.
That can only mean that we are in for an awesome Makoma rocking experience. Ends
