THERE was excitement among the Express players as Jan Fray was introduced as the club’s new technical director yesterday.
The Danish tactician, who retired from KCC last week replaces sacked Turk Abdul Kadir. Fray met the players at morning training at Wankulukuku.
Leo Adraa now becomes head coach, to be assisted by a trainer, likely to be Richard Kirumira. Jimmy Muguwa will be retired.
Muguwa is yet to fully recover from an accident he was involved in last year that has reduced his effectiveness as a coach.
“You are supposed to get instructions from only Adraa and Fray. Everything must be channelled through the two,” club official Kassim Buyondo told the players.
Fray talked to the players in English, which was a bit of a headache to some of them. Buyondo acted as interpreter.
“Fray is here like an ambassador. If you play well, you will get a chance to play in Europe also,” said Adraa, who has been in charge of the club.
Express will play a build-up tie against Uganda’s other continental representatives Police today at Nakivubo.
Express will then head for Lusaka via Nairobi aboard Kenya Airways tomorrow.
A plan to use a chartered Eagle Air flight was curtailed by the huge costs involved.
The new Zambian season kicked off at the weekend and Express opponents Green Buffaloes recorded the biggest win with a 4-2 success over Roan United away in Luanshya.
