RETIRED Anglican Bishop George Ssenabulya yesterday asked Kabaka Ronald Mutebi to check the increasing rate of immorality among Ugandans before matters get out of hand.
Josephine Maseruka reports that he said Ugandans were highly admired within and abroad because of their decency, but “this had long been forgotten, evidenced in their way of dressing, use of vulgar language and dancing stylesâ€.
He said this in a sermon during a thanksgiving service to mark Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s 48th birthday at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe.
Ssenabulya said the word ‘hosanna’, chorused on Palm Sunday, which coincided with the Kabaka’s birthday, means ‘save now’.
He said unless the Kabaka and other leaders saved their people now, pornography would destroy the society.
Ssenabulya said he was disappointed that the Baganda were selling off their land, to the extent of even selling their burial grounds.
He also decried the rampant poverty among the Baganda.
However, he commended the Government for the conducive atmosphere in the central region, which he said had enabled the Baganda to live happily with the Kabaka. Ends
