THE marauding Karimojong warriors and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels who have made it a hobby to harass, loot, kill in Otuke, Moroto and Erute north, Lira district may soon have nowhere to hide.
The First Deputy Premier Eriya Kategaya has directed the commander of the reserve force, Lt. Gen. Salim Saleh, to ensure that a battalion of the UPDF is immediately deployed in Lira district to stop attacks by the Karimojong warriors and the LRA rebels.
“We are going to immediately deploy one battalion in the constituencies of Otuke, Moroto and Erute north. I have talked to Saleh and he has assured me that within the next one week, the soldiers will be in place to protect our people” Kategaya said after visiting over 108,000 internally displaced persons in Lira last week.
Kategaya, also internal affairs minister, said that President Museveni had directed the Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, to recruit, train and deploy 150 Special Police Constables to beef up security in the area. Ends
