the world is turning a deaf ear to God’s call for the love of peace and working for it, Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala has said, reports Edris Kisambira.
“The world is indulging itself in situations that cause war,†he said an Easter message, he read before journalists at his residence yesterday.
Wamala asked, “how can we declare ourselves God’s children when we turn a deaf ear to His call to love peace and to work for it?â€
He said peace is not a wish but a gift, adding that it is not God’s fault if there is no peace in the world.
He said, “it is our fault, we refuse to be peacemakers, we refuse to be God’s children.â€
He said the world was going through a very trying period in this Easter period.
“The September 11, 2001 events..., the war in Afghanistan - and now we are in Iraq slaughtering and condemning ourselves to untold suffering,†he said.
Wamala said while there are institutions in place like the Uganda Human Rights Commission, Ministry of Integrity, such institutions “are deliberately ignored and their findings, guidance and rulings are flouted and rendered ineffective.
The cardinal sent happy Easter greetings to President Yoweri Museveni and his family, the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Mutebi and the Nabagereka, and to all the people of Uganda.
He said the message of Easter, “is to rise from death to life and wake up from darkness to light, to rise above hatred and strife to building a united nation.â€Ends
