"Mama I think Samsoni should go with Muko, otherwise Dad may not believe he has been found."
Muko and Samsoni caught the last boat to the islands.
"You lads are lucky, you found me leaving," the fisherman said. "My sister lives on the islands and I have just been given an urgent message for her. If it wasn't for that, you would have had to wait until morning to get across."
"We are grateful to you sir," Muko replied.
"You mean grateful to my sister," the fisherman grumbled.
For the rest of the journey the drone of the engine covered the silence in the boat. The fisherman and his companions were lost in thought.
Muko was thinking about the trouble Samsoni was causing.
Samsoni was thinking about what his dad was going to do to him. The fisherman was thinking he may not return in time to fish that night. The boat engine splattered as it approached the shore. Muko had just turned to say 'thank you', when Samsoni splashed into the water, half wading, half swimming, and bolted for the shore.
"What's with him?" the fisherman cried. Muko jumped into the water in hot pursuit. Samsoni crossed the beach and headed for a very dark patch of trees, within seconds he had disappeared.
"Samsoni come back, the lions in those trees will eat you!" Muko shouted. He thought about continuing the chase but decided against it. 'He will come out,' he muttered, 'it's so dark in there, he is bound to get scared.'
Muko made his way to the police post and found his father sitting on a bench outside a wooden door with iron bars across the top. Every now and again Mr Mulondo looked up and called gently to someone inside the cell
"Just be strong my son, it won't be long before I get you out."
"Yes Daddy!" a little boy's voice would answer.
"That's not Samsoni" Muko whispered to his father. "I've just come with him, I found him at home."
"Are you trying to tell me I don't know the voice of my own son?" Mr Mulondo shouted.
"Daddy who are you talking to?" the voice came from the cell.
"Your brother Muko. "
"Has he brought my green blanket?" "How does he know the colour of Samson's blanket ?" Muko cried?
