Tomorrow (Sunday) will be Easter. This is perhaps the most important day on the Christian calendar.
On this day, we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus lived on earth for 33 years before he was crucified on the cross under the orders of a ruler called Pontius Pilate. He died and was buried.
On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead. This news was given to disciples John and Peter by an Angel dressed in white, who they found outside the tomb.
“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, He is risen,” said the Angel. After living for 40 more days on earth, Jesus ascended to Heaven to live with God, our Father, but promised to return.
Christians have continued to celebrate Easter in remembrance of his death and ressurection. Some people go to church dressed in their best or new outfit. Others prepare plenty of good food, go to bars to take alcohol and to disco halls to dance.
But while we celebrate, what does Jesus’ resurrection really mean to us Christians? Many things.
First of all, it gives us the strength to live happily in this troubled world. Jesus’ promise to be with us till the end of the world, gives us strength. The living Christ is able to give us the same energies that resurrected Him to help us overcome all the devil’s temptations.
We can all have this power if we believe and confess that Jesus Christ died for our sins. Because you have to go through Him to get to God.
Secondly, since God sent His son to die for our sins, Jesus’ death frees us from the sin that we are born with. And the glory of Jesus’ eventual resurrection completes God’s promise to mankind. Before Jesus’ death, we had been cursed into misery, loneliness and suffering.
But because Christ who lived on earth died for our sins, those who believe in Him will be freed from sin. Lastly, it gives us hope after death. Many Christians may constantly wonder whether there is life after death. Yes there is eternal life in paradise, that beautiful place. Because after His resurrection, Christians hope to live in a peaceful world after death.
The same God that raised Christ will also raise all of us who believe in Him. Jesus said: “I will come back and take you so that where I am you will also be.”
Therefore, as we celebrate Easter, we should reflect on the significance of God’s sacrifice of his only son so that our lives are changed for the better.
Live a godly life in order to dwell in the house of God.
