TEENAGER Kevin Mafabi was a double winner at the Makerere Open table tennis championship that ended on Monday at Makerere main hall.
The 18-year-old Kalinabiri Senior Secondary School student won the boys singles event by beating Cyrus Muwanga of Namilyango College 3-2.
Mafabi added the men’s singles title when he beat veteran Andrew Gitta 11-8, 11-7 and 11-9 (3-0) in a lopsided affair.
The victory was an addition to Mafabi’s growing collection of titles following his winning the Sharing Open boys title earlier.
Brenda Asiimwe beat Faridah Chemisto (3-2) to win the women’s crown. Dan Sekyanzi of Aga Khan High School overcame Solomon Otti (3-2).
The four-day event was sponsored by Fotogenix Limited and attracted 128 participants.
Last year’s winner, Martin Olweny, was ejected by Brian Kaganda in the second round while the women’s defending champion Diana Namisango was not available to defend her title as she is out of the country.
The 30-year-old annual Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) event was organised by the Makerere Games Union. Ends
