EMBATTLED Kampala businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba has lost a tender to operate the Jinja abattoir after defaulting on payment of tender fees amounting to sh5.2m, report Jonathan Angura and Godfrey Kagoda.
His firm Basajjabalaba Hides and Skins, which won the tender earlier this year, had electricity and water arrears bills amounting to sh1.65m and sh280,000.
Jinja deputy town clerk Joffram Waidhuba said the tender was reverted to Walukuba-Masese division. It in turn gave it to Jinja Cattle Traders and Butchers Association, the former operators, who came second during the bidding.
Waidhuba said Basajjabalaba had also failed to fulfil his pledge to invest sh37m to improve the abattoir.
