WOMEN have been primarily left out when it comes to accessing loans, cheaper capital and other incentives to help them set up their own businesses, officials have said.
Speaking at the close of a one-day workshop on, “Self Presentation and Confidence Building for Women Entrepreneurs”, Charles Ocici, Enterprise Uganda's executive director, said that women were not aggressive enough to negotiate for better business deals.
“Because they are such poor negotiators, many business women rarely get good terms for credit, contracts and good prices for their produce,” he said during the workshop, which was held at the Economic Policy Research Center, MUK, Friday.
The workshop, which was conducted by Women Entrepreneurs Association, also educated women on how to grow economically, and diversify in their businesses without investing a lot of money.
Ocici said that in order for women to succeed, they needed a positive mind-set, a good idea and financial back-up.
The United Nations Development Programme and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) jointly funded the meet. Ends
