SIR —Mr Yusuf Kyejjusa on April 24 wrote a letter entitled “Government should adopt new, radical measures for Karimojong”. He arrogantly, cynically and insensitively says that the famine problem in Karamoja can be solved by the Government sending the violent crime crack Unit to disarm the Karimojong and force them to dress up. He also says that they can eat up these clothes in time of hunger as the Malawians have done before.
Yusuf, the problem of famine in Karamoja and Malawi is not of their own making and wishing them to eat grass and clothes is uncalled for. We should instead devise means of helping our brothers and sisters in Karamoja so that they can move with the rest of the world.
One wonders why a person should be so tribalistic! We are all Ugandans. When Lucky Dube sang “Different colours, one people” he was trying to show the brotherhood of all mankind. Kyejjusa, try to think more positively.
