VILLA coach Micho Sredojevic has appealed to FUFA to give Cranes coach Paul Hasule more time as he is confident that he will deliver.
Sredojevic was reacting to reports that he and Express’ Jan Fray were among the names floated for the new Cranes technical committee.
The Yugoslav tactician said that a coach can not be graded by a result from a single match.
“They (Hasule and his assistant Leo Adraa) are just unlucky that they were held in Rwanda but should be given a chance to finish their assignment. I am very sure that they will be successful,” said Sredojevic.
He distanced himself from taking over the Cranes saying that too many cooks spoil the broth.
“I can not be a member of the technical committee though I would like very much to see that Uganda qualifies since it will help give our players exposure. The only thing I can do is prepare my players for national duty.”
His Express counterpart Fray however welcomed the idea saying that he will always be willing to serve if FUFA asks for his help.
FUFA secretary Haruna Mawanda declined to comment promising an official statement today.
Meanwhile, Villa have insisted that attracting Sredojevic two seasons ago to Villa park was to rectify the club’s shortcomings on the continent.
However, despite suffering the misery of continental failure in two straight years, club boss Franco Mugabe says the Yugoslav was and is still the right choice.
“There is talk that Hasule was equally good but Micho won that regional trophy that had failed us for years. We have spent heavily on him since bringing him here and will continue to because we have faith in him,” said Mugabe.
“Fans should know that Rome was not built in a day. You’ve got to be patient and I have got to say we were unlucky. He has a year left on his contract but it is going to be renewed,” he said.
Villa has enjoyed local and regional glory on a tide of thrilling football and organised management.
The nail biting defeat to Angola’s AS Aviacao was only Villa’s fourth in the reign of their Yugoslav tactician.
Only Sudan clubs El Merreikh and Khartoum 3, and Uganda’s Police FC had defeated the Jogoos under Micho.
