ALDRINE Nsubuga, the uganda telecom spokesman yesterday clarified that the $6.9m (about 12.42b) for the second phase of the NURP telecommunications component is a loan and not a grant.
He said this is a ‘ON-LENT’ basis to uganda telecom by the Government through the NORDIC Development Fund.
He added that Siemens was contracted by uganda telecom to supply, install and commission the equipment for phase I of the Northern Uganda Reconstruction Programme.
The contractor for the phase II of NURP for which the $6.9m has been lent is yet to be tendered. A specific tender document will be made public when the time is due.
. Right now all uganda telecom has done is to put an advance procurement notice to potential contractors.
