Be careful about a coalition. Obote is sneaking back!

SIR— It should be recalled that it was Milton Obote and his UPC government who deposed, Ssekabaka Mutesa II from his Buganda Kingdom in 1966 and abrogated the federal (federo) system of government from Uganda in 1967. In the process of Obote achieving his intentions, many people were killed, especially the Baganda.
It is well-known that in order for Obote to gain the leadership or presidency of Uganda, he cunningly manipulated Kabaka Mutesa to endorse the KY-UPC coalition which led Uganda to its independence in 192. Actually, without the fusion of the two parties, Obote had no chance whatsoever of becoming the president of Uganda.
In the same way, Dr James Rwanyarare, the leader of the UPC in Uganda while Obote is still in exile in Zambia, has started during the similar process for political parties in Uganda to form a coalition so that UPC may stand chances of getting into power in the coming 2006 presidential elections. Actually, the UPC is taking the same stance as it did before Uganda became independent in 192, that is, it cannot lead Uganda without the assistance of another political party or parties. Indeed, Dr Rwanyarare has initiated the coalition move in Uganda while he is clandestinely planning for his UPC to lead the coalition party, with the ulterior motive of giving way to Obote, the UPC president, to lead Uganda for the third time. Although it might be tricky for Obote who most likely will be 82 to become president of Uganda since his age would be at variance with the Constitution.
Anyway the crux of the matter is that Ugandans, especially Baganda, should fight tooth and nail to ensure that the UPC does not rule Uganda again.
It does not matter whether Obote or any other person becomes the president of the UPC. What should be appreciated is that many people who are current members of the UPC were also members of the party when Obote messed up Uganda during the two terms he was the president of the country.
This means simply that the party is infested with people who are against the monarchy and the federal status of Buganda!
Under the circumstances, Buganda should not support the intended coalition party for the 2006 presidential elections.
At this juncture, it should be appreciated that it is Museveni who re-instated the monarchy of Buganda. With the current intensity the Baganda have exerted clamouring for the reinstitution of federo, it is quite possible that the insistence would be rewarded.
Then it follows automatically that for the Baganda to support the coalition which is being mooted for the 2006 presidential elections, they would be digging their own graves! Of course, that will never happen because Baganda are not fools.
