PRESIDENTIAL aspirant and Gulu municipality Member of Parliament Nobert Mao has floated a pressure group within the Democratic Party (DP) to revitalise it.
Mao said on Thursday that the group, known as the New Democrats Network, would modernise DP and transform it into a winning Party.
“It’s not a new thing. In fact it has been around for some time. People should look at it like other pressure groups like the youth, women and other groups.
“It’s not a break away faction or a new party. We are just launching a campaign within the party to clean it,” Mao said.
Highly placed sources within the DP refuted Mao’s claim, saying his group is not new but a deliberate move to undermine the top leadership of the party.
“The recent developments are calculated attempts to kill the party and we fear for the worst,” a source said.
Mao’s remarks come three days after his meeting with Hajji Nasser Ssebagala in London on Sunday.
Details of their discussion are still unknown but sources within DP say Mao’s announcement of a “break away faction” hours after the meeting could be one of the issues they addressed.
