THE Gulu-Adjumani road has been abandoned by business men and women from and to Adjumani for the last five days following an attack by LRA rebels that left 16 dead and several others injured on Easter Monday, reports Dradenya Amazia.
Travellers believe LRA attacks along that route have intensified.
The LRA killed at least 29 people and injured several others on the road last month.
Ahmed Awongo, the RDC of Adjumani, said yesterday morning on a phone from Adjumani, “It is true that no vehicles are moving from either side but it is due to some logistical problems not a blockage from the rebels as some people might think.”
“The army does not have proper trucks, they use Fuso lorries and pick-up trucks belonging to the business community to guard the convoys,” Awongo, who is also the district security boss said.
“But due to the recent rebel attack, they have decided to abandon the road for fear of more attacks,” he added.
