THE number of born-again Christians at Makerere University soared as over 300 students gave their lives to Christ on Sunday.

They underwent a special baptism at the university swimming pool.

The converts, majority of them ladies, kept shouting ‘goodbye fornication, goodbye Club Silk and Angenoir,’ to thundering applause from members of the Makerere Community Church and the university fraternity.

Many of the converts said their decision to turn to God was sparked off by Roger Mugisha’s testimony. Mugisha was the former head of the sexy Shadow’s Angels dance troupe.

Pastor Martin Ssempa, the head of Makerere Community Church, said Mugisha had visited Prime Time, a top-notch Christian entertainment programme, run at the university swimming pool every Saturday night.

Ssempa said, “The numbers at Prime Time have taken a new turn from the day the former Shadow visited us. We are overwhelmed by the throngs that have turned up in the past three weeks.”

“Glory be to God for using such a fine young man to turn hundreds to Him,” said Ssempa, Mugisha’s mentor.

Ssempa, who performed the baptism with visiting missionary Bave Carroll, said many of the converts turned up with fetishes and talismen and confessed they had engaged in devil worship.
