CONSTRUCTION of a multi-billion shilling complex of The New Vision Printing & Publishing Company offices begun yesterday, with a ground-breaking ceremony at the company premises.

The two-storeyed building is to be constructed on Plot 2/4, Third Street, Industrial Area in Kampala by Seyani Brothers & Company, a local construction firm. The project to last nine months, will cost US$1.1m (sh2.17b). The funds will be got from the company’s revenues.

The project was designed by David Mugamba of Proplan Architects and will be supervised by Barker, Barton and Lawson, both local firms.

The board chairman, Bart Katureebe and the managing director, William Pike, performed the ground-breaking ceremony with a pick axe and shovel at the company premises.

“This is a big innovation by The New Vision. It shows that the company is growing as a paper and that the construction industry is also growing. It is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy,” Pike said. The top floor will accommodate The New Vision and Bukedde journalists.
