THREE people were killed when heavily armed cattle rustlers from Nakapiripirit district attacked villages in Moyok and Nyimei parishes in Kwanyiy sub-county, Kween county, Kapchorwa district recently.
The dead were identified as Kamwami Ndiwa of Chekwir village, Chelakwek of Kapchesimet village and Chelogoi Moses of Tulwo village.
A rustler was reportedly killed and army uniforms recovered during the attack on separate grazing grounds in the area at 12:00pm.
The rustlers also raided 330 head of cattle, 198 goats, three sheep and eight donkeys from 41 families.
The over 100 rustlers, armed with G3, SLR and AK47 rifles, overwhelmed the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers at Kwanyiy detachment.
The Kwanyiy district councillor, Henry Mwanga, said the incident affected families in five villages.
He appealed to the Government to strengthen security in the district.
Sources said the rustlers, who spoke Pokot and Swahili languages, are believed to be a splinter group of the Kenyan Pokot.
Recently, the UPDF recovered several of the 200 livestock belonging to the Kongasis, raided by the Kenya Pokot, who also killed several people.
The Kapchorwa resident district commissioner, Tezira Jamwa, and the district council chairman, Nelson Chelimo, confirmed the incident, but they did not elaborate.Ends
