NGOs warn of disaster
BUNDIBUGYO — Non-governmental organisations have warned of disaster among the Congolese refugees in the district. “If immediate action is not taken to address the health and food challenges which have come with the influx of Congolese fleeing into Bundibugyo district, we should expect a catastrophe soon,” the director of The Organisation for Emancipation of the Rural Poor, Maate Wa-Bukombi, said recently.

Suspect confesses
MUKONO — Court on Tuesday broke into laughter when a suspect confessed to burning her neighbour’s shrine, over pestering her for sex. Irene Nandawula, 21, of Namengo-Kiteredde, asked the district Chief Magistrate, Isaac Muwata, for mercy saying Godfrey Luyombya regularly called her name as he entered the shrine, praying to have sex with her. The magistrate cautioned her, saying she was a first offender and appeared repentant.

Court heard yesterday that Charles Dickens, the state prosecutor, could not appear because he was critically injured in an accident over the weekend. The magistrate, Frank Othiembi, adjourned the case to May 25. Ends
