The new UPDF 3rd division commander, Col. Andrew Gutti, has assured the people in the neighbouring districts of Karamoja that he would decisively deal with cattle raids and other acts of lawlessness caused by the armed Karimojong warriors.
He said his first priority would be to secure the roads that had become hot spots for highway robbers.
“My other urgent priority is to end the inter-ethnic clashes and cattle raids among the Karimojong,” Gutti said.
He said he would first deal with the security situation in the Karamoja region before moving to the neighbouring districts.
He was speaking after assuming the command of the UPDF 3rd infantry division from the outgoing commander, Col. Sula Ssemakula, at the UPDF 3rd division headquarters in Moroto.
Gutti allayed fears that the Karimojong would exploit his ethnicity to mete atrocities in the neighbouring districts.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Camp Commandant of the UPDF General headquarters, Col. Hussein Ada and the director of records at the UPDF headquarters, Major Metland K. Bitumbika. Ends
