Celtel Uganda officially launched its telecom services in Kabale last Friday. This is part of the company’s current drive to cover the entire country with its mobile network services.

Speaking at Kabale stadium, Lars Andersen, the Celtel Uganda managing director, said their expansion programme was part of the company’s bid to provide improved usability and accessibility to communication in Uganda.

“We at Celtel are proud for all the contribution we have made to the development of mobile communication in Uganda and we wish to reaffirm our commitment to continue developing rural communication,” he said.

Serapio Rukundo, the Kabale Municipality MP, presided over the colourful event.

Rukundo commended Celtel’s expansion drive, describing it as a continuation of Celtel’s role in the country’s effort to modernise the telecommunications sector, empower the people and to improve trade and development.

As part of its goal to keep give back to society, Celtel made a donation of exercise books to primary schools in the region.

“These books are being provided by Celtel to ensure that pupils go to school, these services being both business and social. This is what makes Celtel a reliable partner in development,” Rukundo said.

Celtel recently launched a new campaign dubbed ‘New Look and Feel’, aimed at revamping its public image for the better. The mobile network provider has slashed its cash and talk rates, but still does not charge a service fee.

“With the rebirth of Celtel you will see a string of opportunities coming your way,” Andersen said.

In the west, Celtel Uganda is looking to extend its services to Kisoro and Fort Portal. Up next is Gulu. The Celtel network is now covering just over 60 towns in Uganda.
