Marabou storks living in the wild get most of their food by eating whatever is left over from the prey that other animals kill. Those that flock to towns do so because their natural environment has been destroyed by man. These mainly eat from rubbish heaps.
Marabou stocks are attracted to grass fires. They march in front of advancing bush fires grabbing animals as they flee from the heat of the fire.
The leg and toe bones of the marabou stock are hollow. This makes them light in weight and so helps them in flight.
Marabou storks eat all kinds of living and dead animals. They need to eat at least 700 gm (almost 1 Kg) of food everyday in order to survive.
