Street children
Step mothers!
Learn to confide
Oh for debates
Street children The question of street children in Uganda is worsening day by day. Many people say that street children are there as a result of having been orphaned. But can we say that all street children have lost their parents? The answer is no. According to me, street children are a result of the following; neglect by some parents, corporal punishment, mistreatment by step parents and being misled by peer groups. It’s now the government to give guidance to the people in order to reduce the numbers of street children.

Step mothers! I advise step mothers to stop looking down on our talents because they are gifts given to us by God. I used to participate in games and sports and was going to compete at national level in 1997 at Kabile. My step mother told my daddy to stop me participating so as to work hard at school. Yet at home she does not allow me to read and revise my books for class work. I still love participating in sports and other extra curricular activities.

Learn to confide Please learn to share your problems. Share them only with trusted friends. If you are at school talk to your school counsellors. At home talk to your parents. Do not carry your burdens alone.

Oh for debates How interesting debating is! In our school, St. John Bosco Katende Primary School, debating is the order of the day. Every Friday, if we go away without debating, our hearts feel heavy. We always start with choosing the motion for the debate. Next we select the main the opposers, proposers, a chairperson, a secretary, a time keeper and a chief whip. Debating has helped us gain confidence and fluency in talking. So I support debating whole heartedly.
