THE Uganda Lottery Company (ULC) will finally launch its online gambling game next week, the managing director, Lu Ruijun, said on Friday.
Geoffrey Kamali writes that the game, dubbed Lotto, will be launched on June 2. It is the first online gambling game of its kind in Uganda but the second in Africa, after the one in South Africa.
Lotto is based on a wide network of computers linked together, initially starting in Kampala, Jinja and Entebbe. Players will be able to buy tickets from the 200 established lotto access points.
“We are ready to start. Beginning May 29, we will be giving free trial tickets to players and on Saturday (May 31), we’ll hold the trial draw where the first jackpot will be sh10m,” said Ruijun.
He said the tickets will be sold for sh1,000 each.
Draws will be broadcast every Wednesday and Saturday on WBS Television, he added.
Ruijun said winners of the first real draw will carry home a remarkable sh180m jackpot. Ends
