Lady Justice Caroline Atim Okello of the Nakawa High Court yesterday withdrew from hearing a case in which Kyambongo students sued the university authorities for cancelling their final examination results.
Josephine Maseruka and Fred Kyobe write that Atim surprised the court when she said she had information that Ngeta TTC students who were affected had been told to raise sh55,000 each to influence the judgement.
Mubiru Kalenge, representing Kyambogo University had asked the judge to grant him a week- adjournment.
Instead Atim gave the hair-raising revelations. “This information is a lot of nonsense because I don’t sell justice and justice cannot be sold. If I tried this case, my name would go into mud to be trampled on,†she said.
“The matter will be one of the many wild malicious allegations against the judiciary that it is corrupt. I am returning this file to the deputy registrar Nakawa to swap it with any other case being tried by my brother Judge,†Atim said. Ends
