BOB Bibasa carries his vast experience into the Kireka Masters Invitational ready to avenge his defeat to Hassan Mulambe in The New Vision International championship.
Mulambe shocked Bibasa on his way to lifting the prestigious title.
He lost to the champion in a game he described as a ‘typical fluke’ and is sure there is no chance of lightening striking twice.
“It’s going to be competitive and I’ll give it the best shot,” he said.
Bibasa believes the battle for the top prize will be one between him and Grace Nsubuga. “I think Grace might win it because he’s good.”
Bibasa’s Achilles heel is getting excited when in the driving seat and against calculative competitors, he will have no margin for error.
But he also boasts a menacing ability to bounce from the verge of extinction as he showed against Nsubuga.
Fighting a lost cause, he somehow managed to salvage his pride with an ill-deserved draw.
After scaling the greatest heights in local chess, Bibasa will definitely have a say in the tournament’s destiny.
The former Busoga College Mwiri chess player was unanimously named Chess player of the year in 2001.
