BIDCO, a Kenyan based oil refining company, may fail to secure land for construction of a palm oil refinery plant at Masese in Jinja municipality as earlier planned.

The district L.C 5 chairman, Fred Gume said “I have been told that Jinja municipal council has failed to allocate land to these people, but if so I will get them land at Wanyange landing site outside the municipality,”

Last year, Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) officials said BIDCO, which is to exploit the palm oil potential in Kalangala district, will build its refinery at Masese.

Gume blamed the hitch on bureaucracy amongst district technical personnel. He claimed these bureaucrats were bent on frustrating investment in the district.

“They frustrate investors yet these people would set up their industries here and create job opportunities for our youth and also help us broaden the tax base,” he said.
