By Catherine Ntabadde KAMPALA City Council (KCC) has evicted operators of a washing bay on Lumumba Avenue near the Danish Embassy and the High Court, citing security problems.
KCC also plans to ban street parking on Pilkington Street near Workers House as a way of combating security threats in the city.
The Mayor, John Ssebaana Kizito, yesterday said the washing bay was illegal because it did not get the kcc approval.
“The land where the washing bay was operating belongs to somebody but KCC had never authorised them to do business there,†he said.
“All sorts of people used to go to the washing bay yet there is a Danish Embassy, High Court, Rwenzori Courts and Rwenzori House. Since Uganda is one of the targeted countries, we thought it unsafe to let a washing bay in that sensitive place,†he said.
Ssebaana said car dealers operating on the same road will also be evicted. Ends
