Renowned Priest-cum-musocian Fr. Simon Peter Magandazi has widened his repertiore in a new martyrs’ music release. The album, Uganda Martyrs’ Ballads, has been recorded in Lugo studios, Bweyogerere.

It contains eight simple songs that tell the story of the Ugandan martyrs who were condemned and burned to death at Namugongo by Kabaka Mwanga of Buganda from 1885-1886.

The album is written in English, although some songs have Luganda in the background. Fr. Magandazi, who plays the classical guitar, is the lead singer.

The backing vocalists are the Uganda Martyrs SSS Choir from Namugongo, with Annet Okwera, Sylvia Nabukeera and Annet Ahirwe as lead singers. Godfrey Lubuulwa plays the key board. The three have excellent English diction and melodic acumen, which adds to the refinement of the music.

The music is rich, with instruments such as violin, trumpet, saxophone, xylophone and cymbals, and utilizez jazz reggae and ballad musical styles, with a number of duets.
