KONY’S Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels killed at least seven UPDF soldiers and injured 10 others in a battle at Omunyole village bordering Pader district and Moroto county in Lira district on Thursday.
The rebels also killed 13 civilians. The UPDF 503 Brigade commander, Lt. Col. Sam Kiwanuka, told The New Vision in Kitgum at the weekend that the soldiers were from the 77th Battalion.
“It was unfortunate that we lost our seven soldiers and 10 others sustained bullet injuries during the battle with the enemy. But nevertheless, we gave them a bloody nose during the confrontation,†Lt. Col. Kiwanuka said.
Over 20 rebels were killed in the fighting, the 4th Division spokesman, Paddy Ankunda, said
The 5th Division’s Intelligence Officer, Capt. Fred Mukorogo, said more LRA dead bodies were still expected to be found in the bushes.
