KAMPALA — The French-led multinational force in Bunia will continue with its operations despite Tuesday's incident in which a military helicopter was fired at by suspected Lendu militias. Two French helicopters destined for Bunia from Entebbe military Airbase made an emergency landing at Kijura airstrip in Kabarole, after one of them was hit by a bullet.

Former MP new aide
KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Wilson Otage, the former MP for Usuk County in Katakwi district, as his special presidential assistant for research and information. Otage, who was a commissioner for agriculture before he contested for the seat in 1996, yesterday said he was for the new challenge.

Makindye to sue Binaisa
KAMPALA — Makindye division has threatened to take former president Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa to court for allegedly blocking the road leading to a landing. Binaisa, who owns a piece of land at Kawuku in Makindye, reportedly sold the land to a foreign investor recently, who fenced the three acres, thus blocking the road to the landing site.

Guard surrenders
KAMPALA — A private security guard yesterday turned himself in at a police station after shooting and injuring a man during a brawl in a city suburb. Andrew Onenchan, 56, attached to Securicor Uganda Ltd., spent the day inside the cells of Katwe Police Station where had handed himself over to the officers at the counter.

Asian boss to pay fine
MUKONO — An Asian who spat in the face of his employee before beating him up was recently fined sh150,000. Basawanapps Tammanna, 30, a chief engineer with Nyanza-Southern range Limited in Njeru town council, admitted before Njeru Grade Two magistrate Agore Okiror that he assaulted Patrick Kimera and disfigured his face.
