UGANDA Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC) is set to ban any boxer who fails HIV and hepatitis B tests, reports Phillip Corry.
The local professional boxing governing body delivered the message at a conference organised at Grand Imperial Hotel on Tuesday.
“The World Boxing Council (WBC) four years ago resolved that professional boxers under-go compulsory tests for HIV and hepatitis B which we will implement this month here in Kampala,” UPBC president Celestino Mindra said.
“All boxers and ring officials who test positive for both tests will not be allowed to participate in the sport.”
Boxing is one of the most dangerous contact sport where boxers sustain cuts which could lead to catching the deadly virus.
Professional boxers, referee/judges, journalists, NCS officials and UPBC members attended.
