A SOLDIER of the Presidential Guard Brigade died on the spot in an accident that involved President Yoweri Museveni’s official vehicles and two civilian cars at Wampewo Avenue roundabout on Jinja Road yesterday.

A SOLDIER of the Presidential Guard Brigade died on the spot in an accident that involved President Yoweri Museveni’s official vehicles and two civilian cars at Wampewo Avenue roundabout on Jinja Road yesterday.

The soldier fell off a military jeep that was escorting a fleet of vehicles to State House after the President’s official car rammed into a civilian vehicle.

The driver of the car number UAA 351, was arrested and whisked away by the President’s escorts.

President Museseveni was not in the car.

Six vehicles were involved in the multiple accident that occurred at a spot being repaired by the China Civil and Engineering Company.

Four soldiers on an escort Land Rover jeep sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Mulago Hospital.

The New Vision learnt that the presidential motorcade was heading to State House from a routine garage maintenance.

The President’s official Cross-country Mercedes Benz bearing the Court of Arms was smashed in the front and the sides. Its windscreen was also shattered.

The guards hurried to remove the Court of Arms from the car. A table and a chair usually used by the President were shifted to the back seat.

Another car number UAE 054K, whose front and rear were smashed was pushed off the road into a trench.

The 11:17am accident paralysed traffic on the Kampala-Jinja road for close to an hour.
