THE Government has started rebuilding bridges that were washed away by the 1997 el-nino rains in Manjiya county, Kapchorwa district, reports Nasur Wambedde.
Manjiya county MP, David Wakikona, said the work, being done by Spencon Construction, is will be completed in three months and will cost sh450m.
Wakikona said the area, which also suffered from landslides that claimed over 100 lives, had its communications link cut from the rest of the country.
Manafwa bridge links up the three sub-counties of Bukigai, Bumayoka and Bulucheke.
President Yoweri Museveni, who visited the area shortly after the landslides, promised to assist the landslide victims.
Wakikona, who inspected the work on Sunday, hailed Museveni for fulfiling his promise. “It is not easy to keep a promise and that is why we must be grateful to the President,” he said.
