Medical Aid Uganda, a local NGO based in Lira, has donated medicine and food relief worth over sh150m to the internally displaced persons in Katakwi and Soroti districts, reports Patrick Oyee.
The executive director, Medical Aid Uganda, Opio Emuna, said recently that the supply would be used to treat about 30,000 people living in the camps.
He said because of the renewed attacks by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in the districts, there was an urgent need for more medical and food supplies.
Opio said apart from the donation, they would also drill three boreholes in the three camps.
The donation included 40,000kg of beans and posho, 20,000 pairs of surgical gloves, 100 emergency beds to be used during emergency operations in the camps by officials from the ministry of health. Other items included 4,400 disposable thermal blankets to help keep children warm in the camps.
