OVER 200 people in Gulu district have signed registration forms for the proposed movement organisation.
A Movement chairman in one of the sub-counties in Gulu said, on condition of anonymity, that they had gathered the required signatories as prescribed by the Constitution.
Among the big shots who attended a meeting at which the signatures were received was district Movement chairman, Charles Odora Oryem.
Others were the general secretary, Odur Mill, the LC5 chairman, Lt. Col. Walter Ochora, and the former campaign chairman for Museveni’s 2001 campaigns in Gulu, Jack Pen Mogi.
“People have shown enthusiasm for registering the Movement as a party organisation,” the source said.
The law requires 50 people from at least 20 districts to sign up as founder members of the Movement Organisation.
“We have received overwhelming response from the people of Gulu during the exercise and I believe the Movement will have a strong foundation here,” the source said.
Meanwhile, James Odong reports that over 8,700 rebels have renounced rebellion and returned home under the amnesty law, the Prime Minister, Prof. Apollo Nsibambi said recently.
He said the Government was handling the situation in the north carefully.
