A TOTAL of 351 Ugandans are among thousands of American Diversity Visa lottery winners who are now free to apply for permanent immigration to the United States of America.

The US Department of State announced the results of the diversity visa lottery on June 24, according to The Washington File, the department’s official bulletin. The lottery attracted over seven million applicants worldwide.

“Winners of the visa lottery have been registered and notified, and may now apply for an immigrant visa,” the statement, issued on Thursday, said.

It added that they should acquire the visa between October 1, 2003 and September 30, 2004.

The Washington File said that during the visa interview, applicants must provide proof of a high school education or its equivalent, or show two years of work experience in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience within the last five years.

A source familiar with the diversity visa programme told The New Vision that it is used to attract professionals into the US.
