KAMPALA mayor John Ssebaana Kizito has said proprietors of private schools must submit their building plans to Kampala City Council (KCC) for approval.

He said on Thursday during the ground breaking ceremony of Children’s Corner Junior School in Makerere Kivulu that construction of private schools must always start after KCC has approved the plans.

The school proprietor, Mengo state minister for women Florence Bagunywa Nkalubo, is also the KCC secretary for education.

Ssebaana hailed private schools for supplementing the Government’s Universal Primary Education programme.

He said children who are not absorbed into UPE schools could seek education from private schools.

Present was city education officer Muwonge Kewaza, deputy mayor Dr. Takuba Kabuye and secretaries Francis Lubowa (health), Francis Rwego (finance) and Winnie Makumbi (social improvement).
